Excellant and timely article. I could rant for hours on why I feel the estate tax is unfair, how so little revenue comes from it and how it lasts because it is a tax only on the wealthy, but it looks like we are stuck with it.

I really like the loan idea. I have for years advocated use of the anual gift exclusion, but trying to gift the exact amount each year is sometimes problematic. The loan is the perfect vehicle, the only catch being the need to survive long enough to forgive the entire debt.
